Old Glory Re-Signs English Lock Stan South

Old Glory has announced the re-signing of Stan South, one of the starting locks from last season. A new addition to the 2021 team, South settled in well at Old Glory. He had a rough start to the season, collecting three yellow card in his first four matches with the team. However, after taking a moment to settle down, he really picked up his game. He excelled as a lineout jumper, frequently causing chaos in opposing teams’ lineouts.

He put in long performances, too. In the middle of the season, he was regularly playing a full 80 minutes every match. He was on track to clear the thousand-minute mark by the end of the season, until a leg injury cut off his season early. He ended at 742 minutes in 10 appearances for the team.

Statistically speaking, there is little to complain about in South’s performance. He was a good runner, with 145 of his 319 meters made coming after contact. Defensively, he had a very respectable 90% tackle rate.

I expect South to be a key part of the team’s strategy in 2022. While Old Glory is particularly strong in the locks, South brings something particularly special to the lineouts that will help the team frustrate their opponents’ attack. Hopefully, he can stay healthy and we can get a look at what a full year of top-notch Stan South can do for the team.
