English lock Stan South, who has seen quite a lot of playing time in recent weeks, will be out for the rest of the season. He injured his knee in Old Glory’s home match against NOLA two weeks ago. Although he didn’t come off the field at the time, it seems now that it actually was a problematic injury. Hopefully it isn’t too serious and he has a speedy recovery.
With Api Naikatini and Tevita Naqali at full health, the team shouldn’t have any weakness at lock. Expect to see more of Casey Renaud coming off the bench. It’s also possible that we will see David Beach, the 24-year-old from Mystic, get his first cap.
The only other player out should be Doug Fraser, who has already begun preparations with the Canadian national team.
With Jamason Fa’anana-Schultz returning from his suspension, Old Glory is in an excellent position from a player-availability standpoint. Of course, that will only be true for this weekend’s match, as the team will once again lose Fa’anana-Schultz, along with Mikey Sosnene-Feagai and Mike Dabulas to the Eagles. Still, it’s good to see the team in such good health heading into the final quarter of the season.
