Flanker Cory Daniel Returns for Old Glory DC

Old Glory has announced the first flanker on the 2022 team, Silver Springs native Cory Daniel. The 26-year-old has been very active in the off-season, participating in both the USA Men’s High-Performance Pathways academy and the Americas Pacific Challenge. He was also announced as a member of the Young Glory u23 team.

This will be Daniel’s third season with the team, but he didn’t see the pitch until about halfway through this past season. However, the converted wrestler quickly made an impact. After debuting against LA, he stepped up to play an average of 45 minutes a match for the rest of the season. Overall, he played 329 minutes in 8 appearances, and that was only because he got injured in the second-to-last match of the year.

He put up some good stats in his limited time. On attack, he ran for 234 meters, 130 of them after contact, and scored two tries of off line breaks. On defense, he had a decent 85% tackle rate and an excellent 20% dominant tackle rate. Subjectively, he was just one of those guys that you notice on the pitch. Whether it was stifling runners behind the gain line or blowing through the gain line himself, he was clearly making an impact.

With 70% of the minutes at flanker up for the taking this season, he is in a good position to push for a starting spot. It’s an open question who will line up on the other side of the scrum, but in Daniel we can be pretty confident we will have at least one good flanker.
