Old Glory DC has announced that Fumie Reyes will be joining the coaching staff for the 2026 season. Her title as Skills Coach is a new one for OGDC, which has traditionally operated with just two assistant coaches.

Originally from Hawaii, she has lived around the world, including in Singapore where she first picked up rugby in the form of sevens. After returning to home to Hawaii, she got more involved with the fifteens version of the game. She would go on to spend a season with the Saracens in the PWR, the top English league, before studying and playing at Central Washington University. Her playing career unfortunately came to an end after a head injury.

After moving to the DC area, she built up a reputation for quality coaching, first with West Potomac and the with the Washington Irish. She has seen success there, including leading a team to the Mid-Atlantic Conference playoffs.

Her time at Washington Irish also served as her connection to Old Glory DC, with the Irish becoming a formal partner in the OGDC player development pathway in 2023. Several Old Glory players have come through the Irish and continued to play there in the off-season. Reyes, then, does not come in to OGDC as an unknown to either the players or the staff, even though she is one the few assistant coaches in OGDC history who wasn't previously an OGDC player.

Her position will be a new one for Old Glory, which has generally operated with just forwards and backs coaches. For years, though, Old Glory has had an issue with skills execution in key moments, which hopefully this signing will address.
