Old Glory has announced the return of long-time OGDC back Doug Fraser. A key piece of the back line since the team debuted in the MLR in 2020, Fraser is the first of the "Canadian Embassy" players to be re-signed for 2023. He has appeared nine times for the Canadian national team and has previously played for the Austin Elite before he came to DC.

An immediate starter, Fraser played all five matches in the shortened 2020 season and walked away with three tries. In 2021 he played eight matches, all starts, only missing matches due to injury and time with the Canadian national team. He also found the try line two more times that season. Last season he played in 14 matches, 12 of them starts, for 877 minutes. In that time, he scored 3 tries and had the most offloads on the team with 13. He was also good defensively, with his 86% tackle success rate being the best amongst the backs with at least 20 tackle attempts.

It will be interesting to see how Fraser is used in the 2023 season. While frequently listed as a center, Old Glory has also frequently played him on the wing. Last season, he spent 10 of his 14 matches on the wing, although he did frequently move to center towards the end of the match when subs came on for the other centers. With Fermín Martínez likely to line up next to Willie Talataina in the centers, Fraser may again see a lot of his minutes come at the wing, or maybe he will come off the bench as a player capable of covering most of the backline positions effectively.

Regardless, it's nice to have another long-time OG locked back in for another year. Fraser is a good player and one of the more reliable parts of the Old Glory back line.
